The Challenge

What new and creative approaches to lifecycle fundraising from our existing volunteers would you recommend Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto (BBBST) implement to expand and maintain a more sustainable donor base? Our  overall objective is to grow our existing donor base through our volunteers, as well as expand donors in the 50+ age group. We’re looking to develop methods to keep supporters/donors engaged, ideally over the course of their lives.

BBBST’s vision is that every child who needs a mentor, has a mentor. For over 100 years, BBBST has been making a positive difference in the lives of Toronto’s children and youth by developing and implementing a wide range of high-quality mentoring programs. We match children and youth (Littles) with volunteer mentors (Bigs) through one-to-one matching as well as group programs, based in schools and in the community.

We believe that by changing the course of young lives, we can in turn improve the course of our community’s future. Studies show mentoring leads to better outcomes through changing the trajectory of a child’s life—from instilling the importance of staying in school, having respect for family, peers and community, as well as giving back. Each time we pair a child with a mentor or introduce a group of students to an in-school program, we start something incredible—a life-changing relationship built on friendship, trust and empowerment.
